  • Mike McKenna, President of PBG, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Consumer Directed Benefits Association (CDBA). The CDBA is a group of dedicated benefits professionals made up of dentists, actuaries, TPA’s , insurers and insurance consultants with the common goal of applying Best Practices and creative cost containment options for employers and consumers.
  • Mike McKenna will be speaking at the Massachusetts Credit Union League annual convention on Washington DC on June 24 and 25th. Topic: Using “Needs Based” strategies when purchasing group health and dental plans.

Mike McKenna, President of PBG, attended the Consumer Directed Benefits Association (CDBA) annual meeting in Orlando. Topics of meetings included the use of Direct Reimbursement (DR) and Direct Assignment (DA) dental programs for small to large employers, Actuarial assumptions applied to current Direct Reimbursement and Direct Assignment (DA) models were also discussed.

Mark Rezendes participated in Massachusetts Division of Insurance Special Sessions on Group Purchasing Cooperatives.
Governor Deval Patrick directed the Division of Insurance to conduct meetings on this topic. The sessions were chaired by Kevin Beagan, Deputy Commissioner of the Health Care Access Bureau. The Massachusetts Association of Health Underwriters Legislative Committee asked Rezendes to participate. He provided input in the areas of Guarantee Issue; Product Design; Rating Rules and Marketing.

Mike McKenna, President of PBG, has been invited to be a guest Speaker at the annual Sage Summit in Atlanta November 9-12. More than 2,000 employers will attend this summit. Topic of presentation will be: “Strategically Controlling Health Care Costs using high deductible medical and Direct Reimbursement Dental Plans.”

  • Mike McKenna, President of Partners Benefit Group, has been invited to the American Dental Association (ADA) National Dental Benefits Conference
  • Mark Rezendes met with several members of Congress in Washington DC to discuss Health Care Reform bills.
    The meetings were held on July 14th and 15th and were scheduled in conjunction with the National Association of Health Underwriters and several other agent organizations. Input was provided in the following areas: Market Reform; Individual Mandate; National Exchange; Government-Run Public Option; Subsidies & Premium Assistance Programs; Employer Mandate; Wellness Programs & Cost Containment; Long-Term Care; The Role of the Agent; and Financing.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Alden J. Bianchi is the practice group leader of the firm's Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice and a member in the Employment, Labor and Benefits Section.

He advises corporate, not-for-profit, governmental and individual clients on a broad range of executive compensation and employee benefits issues, including qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, stock and stock-based compensation arrangements, ERISA fiduciary and prohibited transaction issues, benefit-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, and health and welfare plans. He has also testified before the Senate Finance Committee on the subject of health care reform.

Alden is a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Suffolk University and Georgetown University law schools, and he holds an LL.M. in taxation from Boston University School of Law. He is listed in Woodward & White's The Best Lawyers in America, and Marquis' Who's Who in American Law, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel.

Our expectation in hosting the seminar towards the end of March is that there will be additional guidance on topics that are not addressed or not clear under the Act presently.
